Caterer awarded highest possible rating for a boutique corporate caterer by Sustainable Restaurant Association.

Artizian is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a company-wide Three Star Rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), scoring an impressive 72%, putting it amongst the highest performing foodservice and hospitality businesses in the UK.

The SRA praised Artizian for building on its previous, impressive Two Star rating, by making significant improvements, most notably in its fish sourcing and development of a number of community initiatives which now see the company donating vegetables to soup kitchens and teaching youngsters cooking skills.

Tracey Fairclough, Artizian Commercial Director, says: “The fact that we’ve improved our ratings by 8% stands testament to the fact that everyone at Artizian, at site level and company-wide, has collaborated to pushed the boundaries, as well as rise to the ever evolving and increasingly challenging parameters set by the SRA.

“We felt our compliance to the SRA rating was such an important part of the DNA that runs through our company’s veins, that earlier this year, we appointed a CSR Champion, specifically to help us uphold our existing company-wide Two Star SRA standards across all sites, maintain Artizian’s clear central policy to source, produce locally and seasonally, support local charities and community initiatives and minimise our environmental impact and improve Artizian’s performance in: Community Engagement and Sustainable Fish. The fact that we have not only upheld our rating but pushed the boundaries demonstrates our commitments to CSR.”

Artizian’s rating builds on collecting an International Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice and Sustainable Development at the House of Commons in 2013.

Artizian, at one of its sites, investigated to discover it created a staggering 43.2 tonnes food waste, during a 48 week year, but that by installing a Waste2Water Digester, the company would be able to process up to 200 kilos food waste in 24 hours producing benefits such as: (i) virtually no additional labour costs after installation, (ii) no harmful effects on local drains or sewage systems and (iii) a significantly reduced carbon footprint. Waste2Water was a perfect solution because it turned waste into grey water which could be recycled rather than sent to landfill.

Alison Frith, Managing Director said: “Our initiative led contractor, client and customers to understand how Artizian could deliver significant carbon reductions. And the best thing about our Waste2Water campaign … no cost to our client – other than initial outlay – if anything, it saves over £3.5k per annum and promotes Artizian’s commitment to our Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR)!”

Mark Linehan, Managing Director of the SRA, said: “The aim of our rating is to help businesses like Artizian improve continually. Our reports provide SRA Members with detailed recommendations for ways in which they can operate even more sustainably and it’s fantastic to see companies like Artizian working closely with our team to offer their clients and customers a dining experience that is getting ever more sustainable.”
